The pack project

So how hard can it be to make a pack with a decent harness? Its not easy i'l tell you
I wanted about a 50-55L pack that saves on weight whilst still having a comfortable harness. So I thought I would have a go.
The pack fabric is 210d dyneema x. The harness is spacer mesh and 500d nylon cordura.
The harness particularly is very time consuming but I am happy with the result, I have had 10kg in and it feels really good.
I am yet to put a lid on it, a roll top would be lighter but I like a lid. So far the weight is 1.1kg
Anyway here's a few pics, would be interested in thoughts and advice.
Edit: sorry the pics are on their side, you get the idea!

Yep, there was a few false starts, throw aways, cursing and general frustration.
The spacer mesh helps as it stretches which makes the sewing precision a little less important.

Wow!! That's brilliant, Scottyk.
I'd like to order one with side pockets & compression straps, with the lid.

Fair play to you, looks like a good design for bush walking.

Some people on this forum have a talent with the sewing machine- you are definitely one of them!!! Looking good- reminds me of Exped Lightning a bit.

I like clean simple packs. Single compartment, no straps and bits and pieces hanging on the outside to catch on scrub. Others like all of that stuff but I reckon simple is best for me.
Harness has to be comfortable and adjustable with stays help the keep the contents of the pack out your back.
I made a lid and it turned out ok but I am struggling a little with puckering on the seams of the PU coated dyneema x, very frustrating.
Spending way too much time on this but I get a bit obsessive at times!

That's a great looking pack! I can sympathise with spending heaps of time to get the seams to come out just right, and often for no real practical benefit! If you're a bit obsessive like me though it'll be worth it to get it right, even if others wouldn't notice you can still enjoy it.

Great work mate, your workmanship looks fantastic. As with any project there will always be something the creator is not quite happy with but 99.9% of others wouldn't bat an eye lid at it.
Id buy one. I love clean simple packs. One big compartment and a roll top lid is fine by me but it needs to have a comfortable harness system. Let us know when we can place our orders, Ill have mine in black or a darker colour
