Question about hoods

Fixed or removable?
My favourite UL winter warm layer is my old Patagonia Puffball [ much warmer than the Nanopuff ] but due to budgetary considerations I got the non-hooded version and that was a mistake. I should make and add a hood.
My preference is for permanent attachment but this is personal.
Just wondering what others think?

I rarely wear a hood and would rather not have the extra material around my neck all day.

I prefer a beanie for cool to cold weather and a buff to cover my neck when it’s getting serious.
