Local source of silnylon

Sun 25 Apr, 2010 10:35 pm

Does anyone know of a supplier of silnylon here in Australia? I can find a few sources in the US but would prefer to source it here. I'm in Melbourne, but mail order is fine with me.

I'd actually tried myself and came up blank. Where in the US have you found it? I actually want to make a car cover out of it so will need some serious square footage!

The best sources I can find are the following:
Quest outfitters: http://www.questoutdoors.com
Outdoor WIlderness Fabrics: http://www.owfinc.com

Both offer discounts for seconds, and sell a wide variety of lightweight materials.

Good luck with it.

There was a place in Country Victoria (Ballarat ?) that used to advertise in Wild. I don't have the old editions anymore but if someone has them they may be able to look that up. (classified :gear or repairs)

Have a look in Roger Caffin's FAQ pages for links to US suppliers.

This is a great place to source many materials including Sil-nylon.
Bainbridge, they are sail-makers. Their Sydney phone no is 0299381788
AirX-620N is what I have used.

Or where is the best place to get any lightweight material in austalia. I did see one site that was nice, based in Ballarat I believe as stated above. But can't seem to find it again. Any good stores?

Here it is. Never used them, and can't see what they have online, but I am sure they will have some good stuff. Contact them and let us know what they have. I am over seas right now, hence why I haven't contacted them yet. Cheers.

I would be worried about it trapping condensation. I had a 1443R Tyvek car cover but my father took it to the tip accidentally! :x
