Well on a lazy sunday I put together a very dodgy underquilt from stuff picked up at spotlight. Made from ripstop nylon and stuffed with 2 layers of 'wadding' for insulation. More a concept than an actual sleep system replacement but im faily happy with it. Monster quilt. Not sure of weight dont have scales but I guess maybe 700gms

Nice one. It will be interesting to see how warm it is.

Thanks simon. Im not expecting much tbh and will be able to field test in 2 weeks (hopefully with top quilt made same way). I reckon 10c should be ok with it, might be ok to 5 but hard to tell with untested material. Just the satisfaction of my own gear will do for now even if its not that great:)

It doesn't really matter when you make it yourself, if it doesn't quite work then you just modify it or make a new one. You may be surprised how warm it is. How you hang it will influence the warmth as well, it needs to be snug but not too tight or too loose. You don't want draughts getting in between the under quilt and hammock.

Yep instore I asked for 3m of each but one was end of roll and only had 2.8m. I thought that should be enough but without thinking that was also the one I cut larger for the underquilt...bugger!
