Victorian student winched to safety in Tasmania

Postby mountnman » Fri 26 Nov, 2010 9:26 pm

Just found this article online: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/victorian-student-winched-to-safety-in-tasmania/story-e6frf7kx-1225961714971

Why on earth would 14 year olds be walking the south coast track?.... :?
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right....

That part is near the very good walk from Cockle Creek. Could have been a one night out return trip.

Whats wrong with 14 year olds walking the South Coast?? It's a very very very easy track.
I've heard of younger kids doing the overland!!
Nothing to see here.

I'm hoping when my kids are 14 they'll want to come on walks like that with me!

Yes great to see kids out there. Probably turned this one off for life though!

Depends on what section of trail, I'd think. But it doesn't sound like it was overly remote/dangerous.

Coal bluff is reachable in around 3 hrs from Cockle creek. They could have been day trippers.

Losing consciousness after a severe headache doesn't sound like an age related issue. Sounds serious and I hope the youth is OK

Or 6 days from Melaleuca!
Either way if the kid was in trouble they needed to get them out of there, pollies waste so much $$$ every day this is so trivial and just might have saved a life. The more 14 year olds that get into the wilderness the better IMHO!

Of course, I agree totally. I mentioned earlier I have no problem with 14 year olds doing this track. Was just stating that they could have just been in there for the day.
