This location is featured in the movie The Return of Captain Invincible, filmed mostly in NSW and released in 1983. It also appears in the trailer https://youtu.be/_IVCQ8wJLsM?t=48.

In the film this is depicted to be at Narrow neck in the Blue Mountains, but I have not seen this particular knife edge/gap anywhere in the region.

The valley beyond the ridge is briefly shown and it has a similar landscape to the Ruined castle, but the size and shape of the surrounding peaks don't appear to be quite right for that location.

I think its the Tonalli Range near Yerranderie. Specifically the gap between Tonalli and Yubarra mountains (the narrow ridge that separates them is called the coach and horses)?

Amazing, that looks accurate. Even the location of Chiddy Obelisk lines up. :D

BTW is there a reference for landscape feature names? I have seen a few hikers reference that "Coach and Horses" but not seen it named in any maps.

Good question, not sure if it's on one or both of the topo or sketch maps (dunphys or gunungurra?)?? Don't have either to hand right now.

Official NSW place names can be searched for here: https://proposals.gnb.nsw.gov.au/public/geonames/search

Result for Chiddys Obelisk: https://proposals.gnb.nsw.gov.au/public ... c836179153

Just had a look at my copy of Dunphy's Kowmung map and Coach and Horses is marked on the map.

Also, what a weird looking film. Stellar cast, songs by the guy who wrote Rocky Horror and filmed here. Tempted to watch it just for a giggle.

Thanks for the tip, I found the online version of Dunphy's map https://search.sl.nsw.gov.au/permalink/ ... 8530002626

There are some good photos of the gap on Ashley Burke's website

I'd love to know what lead them to film in that location and how they got there! Dropped off by helicopter maybe? I guess it they would have used one to take the sweeping overhead shots
