This is probably the single best reason for carrying a trekking pole.

Other things: Never try to get takeaway food in Deloraine on a public holiday.

This is probably the single best reason for carrying a trekking pole.

The second-best reason for carrying a trekking pole is to push away the nettles in Carlons Creek.

The third and fourth reasons are to pitch a tarp shelter, and to fend off an attacking dog.

Assisting with walking comes a distant fifth.

Made the mistake of exiting Devonport on Christmas Day with the thought of buying breakfast on the way to the WAs.
Every other place was absolutely dead, and ending up going out of the way to a fancy hotel in Launceston to please the guys.

It’s a good idea to pack boots/walking shoes in your carry on luggage!

Never assume because it is late in the day and you haven't seen any other walkers through, that there won't be any. Especially when you decide to get naked and sit in a creek with your clothes a decent streaking distance away.

Poor old couple got a laugh anyway and after I was dressed regaled me with tales of them stripping off frantically on Latapinta due to ants in the undies issue.

Don't slather yourself in Fisiocream just before you want to go to sleep.

I was so cold I had to turn on the electric blanket last night.

Don't carry your (still dripping) hot tea bag over your be-shorted legs in the dark.

Make sure that when woken in the middle of the night by an aggravated sweat rash, that the tube of cream you are applying is a topical one rather than “Deep Heat!!”

I read about a person who said that the toothpaste tasted funny, and then realised that he was using hemorrhoid cream.

Always check and trim toenails before a walk, particularly if much descending is planned.

The black ones take a long time to grow out

I’ve just learnt that the “scientific names” assigned to members upon joining this Forum are in fact very interesting. Here are a couple of a examples, MS Mudd’s is a Celery Top Pine from The highlands of Tas, a Lophophaps is a particularly attractive Spinfex Pigeon from Central Northern Aus and mine is a Southern Sassafras. Got me to wondering if any of us have ever actually spied our nom de plumes in the wild. Yours may be of interest to us all ?

Best case scenario for me is that those blackened ones fall off Stry, I always celebrate the loss of a toenail as it means unimpeded running and walking for at least a few months. I got one on the brink right now, my kids and husband have requested I stop sharing its progress to separation from its nail bed.
You are right though, less fuss and less gruesome to just remember to cut them in the first place.

Tassie is like all the best parts of NSW and then some squashed into this small area. Instead of walking for a day, you step off the bus and its all there in front of you.

Got to do it Muddy.

Me, I even have a few potted specimens here: Phyllocladus, Athrotaxis, Lagarastrobus, Atherospermum ... better in the wild, but.

In Taptalk, tap on your name, or anyone's for that matter, and you see your flora under rank

Well, you're still here, after 13,136 posts. Suggesting that perhaps some provisional pleasantries (probably without cuppas) may be offered to discerning visitors. Who of course must acknowledge that perspicacious sentence by Schiller.

I would be happy to have a cup of water and exchange greetings, they don't need to be pleasantries NNW ;-)

Jokes aside, borders willing, we are aiming to get to Tasmania this year, probably November to visit my husbands Aunt and do some tripping around.
