MapConnect

For those who are not aware of it, I've just found MapConnect. It is a federal government website that is a little bit like 'theLIST' but is for nationwide maps. Ie, an interactive web site for viewing maps and spatial data.

It is of limited use for bushwalkers, as they say it's only useful for about 250k scale. But I thought some might be interested anyhow. (It does allow downloading, unlike theLIST, but it's a bit of a process to go through).

Yeah this site is great!
There is an even longer process you can go through which allows you to download map sections and view them on Garmin GPS'
If anyone is interested in the process (it's a bit long winded and involves downloading free software) let me know and I will try and put something together.
It allows you to have reasonable quality topo on the newer Garmin GPS' with color screens!

Interesting, but it seems to have useful bits of info missing like mountain names and creek names. One of the bits I looked at went in to 1:1000000 though, which isn't bad.

I've downloaded the 4 sheets for Tasmania 250k, and stitched them all together. It's not bad. Nowhere near as good as 25k for bushwalking, of course, but it's still useful for a lot of things, such as car navigation.
