Ephraims Gate & Pool of Salome

Postby Lagaro » Mon 21 Sep, 2009 9:55 pm

This weekend i'm thinking of walking into the walls through the Golden gate a trip I have taken before, but this time I plan on walking through Ephraims gate, past the pool of Salome, then lake Salome.

Does anyone know, if the terrain is passable through Ephraims gate? From memory there was a walkers registration post (more for surveying how many people used the alternate route) and a track appeared to go of towards Ephraims gate. Has anyone ever been through this way?

Kind regards, Lagaro!

I walked in that way a couple of years ago. While it is a bit overgrown on the upper section there is a rough track that can be followed. Coming out on to the Pool of Salome is something I will never forget.

You may want to check out the Snow report for this weekend if tracks are a bit indistinct.

Thanks Robbo! That's just what I wanted to hear!

And thanks fizzygood for reminding me that it's the pool of Siloam :D

Corvus, very good point! But I was kind of hoping for something like this, or better (worse if snows not you're thing) :D

Fizzygood, bouldering sounds good if I change my mind... :D
I'm planning on going hard to prepare for the King Williams etc...
I'm doing the old 11:00PM start to trappers on friday then I will decide saturday morning wether to go through Golden or Herod's gate.
Either way I shouldn't have too much trouble spending saturday night at the pool of Siloam going to try and bag Mount Ophel and Zion hill on sunday if I don't have time on saturday!
Friday night will be a nice test of my new Petzl MYO XP headtorch, should be like walking in daylight!
Will take an Epirb for the first time ever on a solo walk! Thanks Daz!

Oh! I realise this is a wish list walk ,we will be in the Cradle area this weekend and don't wish for any real snow ,our last recent trip to the Walls was curtailed by a heavy snow dump and a more recent attempt at Roogoona and Meston Hut was reduced to ,on the Jacksons Greek track 500 m per hour and a retreat via Lake Bill track which in its self over Blizzard plains was not that flash.
Solo, good luck and I hope it is cruisy 8)
