I just wanted to let all interested bushwalking and Tassie wilderness lovers know that the Launceston Walking Club's next "Do You Know Tasmania" show (no 44, and 2nd all digital) is on again for five nights in May. It will be showing at the Earl Arts Centre, Launceston, from 25 to 29th May. All shows start @ 7:30pm and admission is $15/$10 concession/$50 Families. The main feature of this show will be the official launch, by Senator Bob Brown, of the first two DVD's of our 16mm movie collection, and we will be featuring one movie from each DVD in the show. A JPEG of the poster is below, and please feel free to download and print out for your office noticeboard, or forward the BWT forum link to your friends. Future shows are planned for Ulverstone (2 nights) and Hobart (3 nights) later this year, and possible mainland shows in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide to be arranged. BWT is an official sponsor, so we are hoping to recruit new members for the forum through this promotion.

Thanks for organizing again tas-man, hopefully the Hobart turn-out is as good as last year :D

Cheers.

I'm looking forward to this, as I haven't been to one of these shows for many years (I think it was held in the old teachers centre in Charles St, last time I went?).

Thanks to tas-man and to the Launceston Walking Club for the publicity they're including for BWT this year. It's good to be able to support each other like this - we're all part of the Tassie walking community.

Agreed! Awesome show! When is it going to be in Hobart??
The section on the POW last year was what started my current desire to get out there!!
Looking forward to it.

We were planning to go a bit later in the week, but at short notice we've had to change plans and my entire family will be there tonight (too short notice to get a baby sitter). I sure hope the kids behave themselves, or at least sleep! :-)

Anyone else going tonight?

I'l be there every night
Our apologies for the glitch in the BWT Promo section on Monday night. It all ran well tonight. I trust Nic that you and your family enjoyed the evening. Your kids didn't make a sound - what did you give them?

See you there Ian.
And everyone else.

No worries, I'm just grateful for the exposure you're giving us anyhow, and I'm glad to hear it worked better last night. :-) Although I would have liked to have seen that segment fully for myself. After it's all over, is there any way that you can send me a copy of just that segment? Or post it on the forums? (without breaching club/DYKT expectations)

I trust Nic that you and your family enjoyed the evening. Your kids didn't make a sound - what did you give them?

Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. It's the 3rd time I've been to one of the DYKT shows, and they're always great.

I was a bit concerned about taking the kids (11 months and 2 1/2 years), but my wife said that we've got a family pass (she won from the radio - how embarrassing to have a sponsor take away a pass from Joe Public) and that our whole family should go.

But the kids were very well behaved. Ruth went to sleep in the pram (with a dummy to make sure of it), and Sophie, really enjoyed the pictures of bushwalking, especially of Cradle Mountain, which she's seen in real life. She eventually got tired and restless, but did a great job. Those sitting nearby us would have heard the occasional 2-year-old commentary, "Look! A Frog" accompanied by the paranoid parents response of "ssssshhhhhh!!!!!!! Just whisper!!!!!!".

I'm glad I read that before going tonight; it made me laugh (very quietly of course) when I saw Sophie's delightful frog.

It was a great show which has something for everyone, the first I've seen for many years, and a bonus was being able to meet tas-man.

Sorry I missed you, just got home myself.
Well worth the trip to Launceston. If you have any doubts, just do it.
I particularly enjoyed the history of building Scott Kilvert hut, and the Denison River paddle.
Pretty much a full house tonight - not many seats spare.

Here is a photo of Senator Bob Brown speaking at the launch of the DVD Movie Collection Vol's 1 & 2 last Monday. As the local media did not want to publish it, thought I would "self publish" here! 8)

Hi FF,
Yes they will be available at a DYKT in Hobart most likely in September. We sold them at the show at a special deal of both for $30 (RRP $20 each) so will do this again in Hobart and Ulverstone. BWT will get news on these further show as soon as it breaks, as we will continue with the BWT sponsor section in the show. :D If there are BWT members that want to get copies before these shows, PM me and we can work something out to keep everyone happy.

The plans we had for presenting the Hobart show season in association with a local group doing the promotion, have not worked out, so we may look at a one night event at the same venue as last year. It now most likely will be a Friday or Saturday night in October or November, but I will post the details in the forum when a date has been set.

The LWC's ULVERSTONE "Do You Know Tasmania" Wilderness show is now confirmed for Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November at the Leven Theatre, Ulverstone Civic Centre. Posters are now in production and will be distributed around the North West coast region. Admission is $15, Concession $10, and Families $50. The LWC's Movie DVD's volume 1 & 2 will be on sale at $20 each or a show special of both volumes for $30. The Launceston Walking Club's executive committee agreed last week to donate ALL the profits to the Tasmanian Conservation Trust (NW Branch) as a tribute to Arnold Rowands, its long term secretary and passionate advocate for conservation of Tassie's wild places, especially in the NW of the state. I look forward to meeting up with any forum members in the NW who come to the show. Please feel free to email a link to the poster to any friends you have on the NW coast that may be interested in attending.

It is now looking like a show in Hobart will now not happen until Feb/Mar 2010 due to the calendar constraints on venues and personnel in Nov/Dec.

Tas-man how did the show in Ulverstone go?

Attendances were down from previous years with about 80 on Friday night and 60 on Saturday. The advertising was perhaps not as comprehensive as the Tasmanian Conservation Trust NW Branch has been able to do in the past, as well as being much later in the year than our usual September/October time slot. Those that came were enthusiastic about the show with good feedback, so it was a worthwhile event. We had a good night a few years back at the Burnie TAFE auditorium with the local Field Naturalists club promoting the show, so a Burnie show next year may be an option if someone wants to organise an audience!

Thanks for posting that tasadam, you saved me a job :D
I encouraged Janet Fenton to bring the film night to Launceston by offering to organise a venue and the use of the LWC projection equipment. The orange flyers were left over from what I took to the LWC AGM last week, so dropped some in to Mt Designs and PP Launceston. I'll see you there 8)

If you can drum up an audience and a local hall, we can bring the show to Devonport for you :D

Local hall? Possibly. Audience? Um, well... Maybe I need to put an expression of interest list in the local bushwalking shops.

Looks like mid February to Mid March 2010 for Hobart, but the forum members will be the first to know :D It will depend on whether the Friends of Tasman Island can get behind a three day showing at the Stanley Burbury Theatre, or we just go as per last few shows with a night at the 50 & Better Centre in town. One way or another we will get the show to Hobart for you.
