Very nasty indeed.
Hoping I'll never need it, and I know that down our way it's not uncommon for the helicopter to grounded by bad weather, but it's still nice to have a PLB.

Congratulations, Ms. Tortoise!

It must feel really nice to have accomplished that, especially given the time you've been thinking about it. A warm, fuzzy glow that should last a long time. Cheers!

Thanks, Orion. To quote Mr Abel Zane, 'Indeedy do.' I need an emoji with a bigger smile.
I'm really aware of the fact that it was a team effort, all the way along. I can relate a little to Ash Barty, when she uses the inclusive 'we' whenever she talks about playing, training, winning etc. My team has been a lot more diverse, and many individuals don't know each other. But whether it was giving an hour or two of their time as a once off, or leading walks that allowed me to gradually gain experience and confidence on airy rock, or giving the right encouraging word at the right time, it all has made a massive difference.

So you want me and Peregrinator to do TWO milk crates ?..........Whaddaya MAD !!
( the view from the top could be pretty epic though )!!

Seriously though Tortoise...WELL DONE.
Given that youve been planning this for around 7 years now. Generally the longer I dwell on things the more insurmountable they become. So to actually be there and be putting all those thoughts and planning to the test is a huge accomplishment.

Thanks for taking us all on your journey !!!

Not so mad - just one milk crate each. Though if you do it often enough, and practise you relaxation exercises and CBT while you're up there, you just might find yourself enjoying two. :D

The Fedder dream has been brewing quietly for decades, sometimes looking dead, sometimes with a few signs of life. It was my experience on Mt Anne the first time that motivated me to do something about it. It wasn't that I was obsessed with getting to the top of Fedder, which probably helped. Rather, just like the climb itself, it was a matter of just going step by step, unsure of how far it would take me. And I was encouraged by my progress to keep working on it. That got me happily up and down Anne a year later, then up and down Hyperion and Geryon South - again with the right help.

Thanks, Osik. Your contribution to my success is greatly appreciated! The crashing of waves on the rocks below added a little something to the training.

Thanks, 1iron. :D A lot of water under the bridge since then. But only 8 years, according to my photos. It seems a lifetime ago! I'm really grateful to you for your generosity as well. PW was a very big deal for me then, and I felt I was in very good hands. I strongly suspect it's a mountain I'll revisit sometime. :D

Off topic, but do you guys know (or care) which of those peaks on West Pelion is the highest point? I know it's not really that important but I've wondered if the lightning sent me running before I tagged the actual top.

The highest point is a big angled dolerite boulder that's a lot higher than it is wide. There's a photo somewhere in the forum of Tortoise hugging the base of it (probably in the Game).
Technically, peak bagging means you have to touch the very highest bit which makes for an awkward scramble up (and down).

This one. As a bushwalker, I'm happy that I climbed PW, and didn't risk serious injury that would curtail future bushwalking. Likewise, I didn't take a ladder to get up the summit rock on Mayson. I'm not winning any prizes or setting any records. On the other hand, near enough to the summit of Fedder would definitely not have been be good enough for me to claim it in my mind. And I did need to revisit Ossa and the Acropolis to check that I did get to the high points before I was interested in tippy-tops. Both are worth revisiting, of course. As is Pelion West. :)

On the map there are three points that are too close in height to distinguish which is highest. Which of these has that boulder?

Thanks. I remember climbing up to touch the top of a block on the middle summit. I couldn't tell from there if the western summit was higher but with what appeared to be deteriorating weather and given how hard it is to move quickly up there I decided to skip it. For the last three years I've been wondering if I really got to the top or not. Now I can sleep better! :-)
