Those resources deals where licenses are transferred here and there amongst a sea of deal making, the peculiar price tags when viewed in isolation are always peculiar. In any case, with the collapse of the oil price, slowing Chinese economy, move towards renewables, hopefully this and many other coal resource holdings out there will never become financial and opened.
Just move it!

Thats one way of framing it but there are many others. Some of the key players (Ian Mcdonald, Tony Kelly, Travers Duncan) appear to have been proved corrupt so who know what the actual mechanics of this deal was.
Anyway hopefully your right and it never gets developed.

theres a consortium trying to get approval to build a road through the hollyford valley to the west coast in NZ. part of the consortium is a chinese engineering company that amongst other things, digs mines... skeptics think its a front to get the road to the red hills from the west coast. stop building the road any further and start mining for minerals.
the chinese are popping up everywhere, they have a massive presence mining in zambia and equador. the biggest luxury resort in nz is going to be built at 90 mile beach in nz 300 million. wherever they go they go in on an absolutely massive scale. they don't give a stuff about wilderness. they are happy to have millions of people trundle through their scenic areas. their concept of how to go about their lives and ours can be poles apart.
from the land of the long white clouds...
