Seeing as they were staying in the cabins up there and not camping makes me wonder how prepared they were when they set out on their walk? There were people milling around the start of the track at the Binna Burra end when I was up there in dress slacks, business shirts and shiny leather shoes & it was very wet, slippery and leechey...

It would have been cold up there last night and a brief but intense storm front barreled through here last night around dark. Hopefully common sense was present and they are ok.

That storm front was mostly dry with only light rain falling. Looks like around 1.5 mm in most parts which is good for the missing walkers. Would have been cold though, see how it pans out throughout the day.

That's great news, when posted they were missing and the police chopper was conducting a search as they had be overdue since 6pm yesterday. I imagine there pretty cold from last night.

I just heard an update on the radio. They said they weren't lost, it just got dark unexpectedly so they decided to spend the night under an overhang  They had no food, water or warm clothing & the SES controller said "We're just lucky it wasn't a typical winter's night." They were happy to announce that they did have a mobile phone though... lucky too, even though there's FA mobile reception there they could have entertained themselves by taking selfies for their facebook pages when they get home today

Can we surmise from this that age is not necessarily equivalent with wisdom nor experience?

But they were wise enough to stop, seek shelter and huddle for warmth. Better than an 80-something tripping over in the dark and break her hip though.

Though not wise enough to pack a headtorch, despite a possibility (?) that it might get dark at the end of the day?

Don't over stress octogenarians! They are fragile.

No. In early spring? in the rainforest? after daytime? never!

I can laugh because I did a walk through Nightcap rainforest a few years back and only threw a torch in my daypack as a very last minute 'meh, may as well'. It saved me a long/embarrassing night

In my case it was young and stupid and I stand by that :D
