Where to find topographic hiking maps

Postby BushWalkerNO1utube » Sat 03 Aug, 2013 8:24 pm

I have been looking for some topographic maps for bush walking mainly in the blue mountains but does anyone know of any websites where I can download a map or buy one?

For paper maps try the Land and Property Information Map shop at the Hyde Park end of Macquarie St in Sydney. The shop is a bit hard to find as its tucked away from the street. You have to walk in past an old historic building. Its in behind that on the right. They have all the maps for NSW.

Wild walks has all the maps online. But you're better off just buying hard copies IMO.

The map shop at parramatta sells them online too. Pretty quick service and cheap postage. Should be able to google them

I'm having increasing difficulty sourcing paper 1:25,000 topos online but I often find what I'm looking for in a local newsagency or information centre close to where I'm planning to walk. In the past I have successfully ordered through adventure stores who are putting in regular orders of their own.

Buy:
Hard copy
- Cartodraft - http://www.cartodraft.com.au/topographi ... alia.shtml
- Melbourne Map Centre - http://www.melbmap.com.au/cgi-bin/site/ ... aphic_Maps
- MMC will laminate your maps (for a cost), which is much better for the current crap paper that the NSW LPI maps are printed on
- NSW Lands Dept (see earlier post)
Digital
- Topoview Raster 2006 - http://www.lpi.nsw.gov.au/mapping_and_imagery/topoview
- a bit out of date, but does have all of the old series topos
- Memory Map - http://memory-map.com.au/digital-maps/t ... s-nsw.html
- latest available, but in proprietary format, so can't be used with any other software

Download
- various LPI servers eg SIX Maps, have data available
