Given the story in the original post, I wonder how long before more control is placed on access to some NPs; e.g. permits and some kind of ranger check of preparedness before departure. With the introduction of those kind of rules, I also see that a requirement for hikers to carry out their waste will become standard. BioBags and a poo tube will become standard carry. Not needing to carry a trowel will compensate for the weight of the poo-tube.
Having recently done a loop through Central Australia, I can assure people that poo tickets blowing in the wind and unburied waste (poo) on river banks is a growing problem.
