11 Types of People you might meet on a hike

Ok, so what kind of folks might one meet as they go for a hike (read: bushwalk)

HEY- I'm 9, 10 AND 11! Blimey!

He left off the "Having Wine and Cheese Right In The Centre of The Most Senic Photo Op" couple, the "I Really Do Need to Wear all this Lynx/Perfume" man/woman, the "I need to send my children to reform school but are ignoring them" couple, the "I've seen better than this at homers", and last but not least, the "It'd be great if it there weren't so many trees!" people.

The dropkick constantly looking for mobile phone reception, often involving his/her annoying ringtone blaring out every 30 seconds...and the deaf person who shares their poor taste in music with everyone else via an I-Pod at maximum volume...( these two are often the same person)

LOL- I know this person well. You can get Next G reception all the way around Dove Lake I think, and they are trying to prove it!

There is also the couple having sex in full view of the track in the middle of the day, although I have only encountered this type of walker once . ( And I think they had a mobile phone as well)

One that I have actually heard on the overland track is 'It would great if there wasn't so much wildlife.' which is similiar to to Drifting's comment. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!

You can't forget the "Newlyweds on Honeymoon"... easily recognisable by clean, new and identically-coloured clothing, jackets, packs etc - if you are lucky, they might even still have shop price-tags / wrapping on their gear, just to proove they kitted up for their walk at the local gear shop on the way to the track start.

Also, the hardy "European Solo Tourist" should warrant a mention, probably wearing sandshoes and a disposable poncho (to keep the rain out), and a blue tarp for a tent... also may have started their "Overlander Trail Hike" after cycling to Cradle Mt.

Don't forget Mr Lightweight. He is always carrying something lighter than you. If he was any lighter he would just float along the track or float away. Sorry no offence meant if this category represents you.
I also quite like Mr and Mrs Everywhere. Wherever you have been they have been there before and done it many times. I sometimes fall into this category myself, but need to remind myself that although my intentions are good I need to occassionally take some humble pie and just appreciate the journey for what it is.

Ive met one of these every time i do a hike overseas, whether it be NZ, vietnam, malaysia, Tanzania.......

*shudder* It's even worse when they're doing it on the track. At least it's rarer in winter.

Hi

I am with Corvus but on the weekend meet a number five that gave me the number two's. Um? Time quoted from the the base of Pillinger to the top? Err fifteen minutes My walking companions wisely suggested that we continue on to Pellion as they had not packed their jet packs I am sure that out there is someone that might have done that feat in fifteen minutes but was that in snow, ice and generally slippery conditions. Also what percentage of the population do you recon that they make up? On the way back we did it around one hour fifteen to one hour twenty. The mountain goats I know did it in forty-five minutes with the chance of trimming this to forty minutes. I do question number fives that quote times that can result in people walking unfamiliar tracks as night falls.

I think it's great that all sorts of people can get out there and enjoy the outdoors, we are all different be it race, size, colour, experience, habits, whatever. I also think it's great that we can laugh at ourselves as much as we can at others.
A sad world when life is so serious that we cannot, in my opinion.
I think the point is not to be critical of others for the wrong reasons, but as is being done here - recognizing the differences in a comical perspective.
Life is fun, go & enjoy it & lose the sensitivities. As per the intro, make love not war.
