Bushwalking Clubs

Just curious...

How many of you are members of a bushwalking club?

Personally, I prefer to walk alone or with a small group of people, and am not a member of any of the local clubs.

I imagine that most people here are members of a club, although I am interested to hear from you all.

No club.
Happy on my own or with one or two others.
Make my own track, pace, route as such.

Confident enough to get lost by myself, do not the assistance of a group to get lost in the bush....

I used to be a member, but am now rather geographically separated. As a student, clubs are quite useful as they can limit fuel costs and can help share the initial costs of equipment.
I still regularly check the webpages of the clubs I used to frequent as they can help give me some great ideas as to possible future hikes.

I walk with a club to meet new people.

I lead with the club to bring new people into bushwalking/canyoning.

I walk with friends to do things where I'd prefer to have more control over the people who come on the trip.

I walk with friends when I just want to walk with friends.

I walk by myself when I want to do things like taking lots of photos (though I tend to do that on most other trips too!)

Being a member of a club doesn't stop you from walking alone or with friends. It's just another option.

I belong to a club but go walking by myself and with friends as well.

I actually just joined a club, mainly for my wife. She seems to think that I will now walk with groups and I will for some walks, she can also go walking with a group without me. But for long walks I prefer to solo.

No and never have been. Walk either solo or with friends. There has been discussion regarding the value of clubs here previously and I think it was revealed that their value is less clear now that information is so freely shared and available online.

Ha I've been a member for over ten years now of the strzelecki bush walking club (Google it if you want).
I'm considering leaving to join the solo club! But may stay on for another year ATS.
I like the planning and organising walks/paddles etc but sometimes the constant babysitting and decision making for others makes the experience less enjoyable (it may well be that I am getting too old and less tolerant of others).

I second Tom's comments.

You also need to consider the Universal Complaints Principle - you hear a lot from people who don't like something, but not much from people who are happy.
