Interview with Terra Rosa Gear

Postby HitchHiking » Thu 20 Oct, 2011 7:43 am

Hi everyone,

Im sure that most of you are familiar with the fantastic blog Hiking in Finland run by Hendrik Morkel. It is a great blog filled with some of the best info on lightweight hiking around.

I had the wonderful oppertunity to take part in an interview for a section of his site.

If anyone is interested please have a look.

Hi Evan

I read the interview this morning - was great to see an Australian Cottage Industry supplier getting exposure ! I was excited to read about the plans for new products - particular the bug net tent ? Sounds like I could be a future customer...

Hope the article drives business your way - Hendrik's site is certainly popular.

Cheers

Dale.

G'day Evan,

Nice work getting an interview with Hendrik, his is a pretty popular outdoor blog, no doubt it will boost your profile & business! :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the new gear that you're working on, the net tents sound pretty good for the climate around here and no doubt the weight will be right, plus one of those tarps will look good over my hammock...
ALWAYS be yourself.
Unless you can be outside, then ALWAYS be outside.

Congratulations Evan. Excellent interview.

Also a great big thankyou. My wonderful terrarosa red prospecting tarp arrived today and it exceeds my expectations. Its a seriously nice piece of kit and the cuben reinforcements look awesome. I set it up to take some pics but the neighbours kids transcended my yard and began playing in it. Needless to say I brought it down pretty darn quick :-)

So thankyou thankyou thankyou and Congrats.

Ps the bag is awesome. Perfect for scrambling and day walks.

Thanks everyone. I have followed HIF for a long time now and when Hendrik got in touch just before my trip to Canada I must say I was very chuffed.

Yes, a few ideas, as always, have been coming up on paper and a few proto types here and there. I hope to finish testing them soon and get them up on the site. Im very excited for them.

Glad to hear your tarp arrive mic! Yes the kiddes love the tarps with oput fail! :D

Challenging, making an income out of boutique outdoor gear. My feeling is that in this day and age, internet marketing is extremely important, as also is getting a foot in to some of the major forums, such as backpackinglight. Looking back at BPL, when I was a member 3-4 yrs ago, they were really pushing Bozeman Mountain Works. Whilst I'd like to think that an Ozzie bushwalking forum was "up there", my personal experience points to US based forums - BPL, and Hammockforums for me.

I wish you all the best, and please feel free to use any design ideas from me. My income comes from elsewhere.

Hi Andrewa
Thank you for you well wishes.

I will also point out that yes, it is a challenge to make an income out of custom gear. My main source of income comes from elsewhere as well. I don't do it for the supposed large sums of money involved  but because I enjoy it.

Internet marketing (and the following word of mouth) is (are) my only way of making a project like TRG work. Its is a neat age we live in no doubt. I am a contributing member on a couple of overseas based forum including the hammockforums.

I'm not fussed if this Ozzie forum is "up there" or not. I am here because many members are my friends, the information and the shared knowledge is great and I hope to contribute, and I also happen to enjoy making gear as well.

Cheers,
Evan
