3 day hike ideas - snowy mountains

Sun 27 Dec, 2015 2:29 pm

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but hoping some of you can help! My partner and I are going to the snowy mountains in a few days and looking for inspiration for a 3 day hike. We have already done guthega to main range and charlottes pass several times and looking for a new place to hike. We are fine at navigating with topo map and compass and while we don't mind a little off track I don't want to be bush bashing! I'm struggling through internet research to find other places in the area. Does anyone have any ideas or guidance? Thanks and merry Christmas!

Hi

Not sure if this message is to late but some of my favourite three day walks in kosci are:

1) jagungal loop - round mountain to okeefes hut on day 1, day to to Derschkos via mount jagungal and day 3 out.

2) from guthuga power station you can do a walk to run hut, Valentine's and back, over 3 days. On the shorter middle day (tin hut to valentines) take in the falls.

3) you can also do a 3 day walk from tooma dam taking in pretty plain and wheelers hut.

Hope these help.

I did the Jagungal loop from Round Mtn carpark last summer as a 5 day walk and it was awesome. I'm sure it could be cut to a 3 day walk.
Best wishes
Steve

Hi Nikki,

KNP is a wonderful place to walk. There are a number of options for a three day walk, but it depends on the style on walking. One option, which appeals to me, is base camping - ie walk into a single location and then spent the next two days exploring the surround area. A favourite place is Consett Stephen Pass/West Tate Ridge as a base camp and then explore along the Main Range. Recently did a similar trip and base camped near South Rams Head. Alice Rawson Peak area is another special place. Enjoy it wherever you go. Kind regards, Terry
