Larapinta Trail Info

Postby Pammie7 » Sun 06 Jul, 2014 1:26 pm

Hi
We are planning to walk a section of the Larapinta from Birthday waterhole to Ellery Ck in the next 2 weeks (July2014)
Has anyone walked this section recently?Would appreciate any up to date info on track conditions.eg How much water is there in Hugh Gorge? Is there any water at Fringe Lily?
Any other info about campsites etc. would be great. Thank you.

There's a note from someone somewhere in here who has just come of the Larapinta. He said there had been a fair amount of rain just prior to his walk and there was plenty of water.
That means Hugh Gorge will be interesting. There are two sections that usually have to be bypassed (usually by climbing the walls) even during normal water levels - depending on how long it takes for the water level to drop, they may be higher and harder work, and there may also be others.
The first is pretty early on, and you climb up on the eastern side. The water is deep there and I wouldn't advise trying to wade it. The second isn't so bad.
