Seeking solitude...

Postby ofuros » Wed 29 Jul, 2020 12:50 pm

Wet weekend mooching around Mt Barney NP....but it was good to give the hairy legs a workout.

Steamed Prawn dumplings were on the menu...

Rained all night long....dried fruit soaked overnight for breaky, soft claggy heavy clay walkout(note to self...don't take the low track after rain) & a chilly Mt Barney Creek washdown before jumping in the car.
Heaven.... 8)

Is that a coffee filter paper you've used there, or just baking paper?

Just some baking paper to stop the dumpling sticking to the titanium pan. Holes cut in for steam.

Whenever I see a post from ofuros, I realise my camp cooking is woeful. You should write a book, not just recipes but the techniques you use as well. Very creative and better than most things I eat at home!

Except for that pic of muddy boots and gaiters lol, looks like heaven. Also what kind of hat is that (if you don't mind me asking)?

A wide brimmed akubra Territory for sun protection with few extra grommets added for better ventilation. Cheers Snooze.

Whoa...last night was the windiest, angriest gusts I've slept through, surprised the tarp is still in one piece & the stakes held firm.
Enjoyed the gently swaying hammock as the gusts hit though.

...from the wild, windy, angry & cold summit, Unnamed Peak, Mt Barney NP. 8)

Morning dawned...the wind spirits were still cold & blustery, numbing fingers & trying to blow me off the ridge, but the view warmed my soul. 8)

Thanks ofuros for the detailed answer about the hat. (Adding grommets for ventilation--what a genius hack!)

A few more pics from last weekends exploratory trip to a section of Mt Barney NP.

Cheaper than a 4wd...2wd.
DSCF5729 (Medium).JPG

Savoury Scroggin...dried squid strips, wasabi peas, spicy broad beans, dry roasted edamame & BBQ coated peanuts.
DSCF5741 (Medium).JPG

Cicada casing...
DSCF5744 (Medium).JPG

Bouldery gully between the peaks...crossing over to a likely looking ridge, hopefully with views. A dry creek bed runs underneath.
DSCF5768 (Medium).JPG

Steepening terrain. Too steep to proceed further. Poked my head through 'The V Notch' on Stegosaurus Ridge before turning around & heading back.
DSCF5777 (Medium).JPG

Death in the bush...looks like a wallaby's jawbone.
DSCF5782 (Medium).JPG

Setting up camp...
DSCF5796 (Medium).JPG

Din dins...boil & place in a insulated pocket/hand warmer, return in 15mins.
DSCF5811 (Medium).JPG

DSCF5820 (Medium).JPG

...the following morning was a stumbly, windy retreat off the ridge with wildly swaying canopies & falling branches.

Down down, heading down...Brief glimpse of the organ pipes.
DSCF5828 (Medium).JPG

No tracks, no rock cairns, no ticks, no mozzies, no snakes, sporadic 3G...a good fun adventure.
