Lake Tahune – pronunciation

Postby guyburns » Sun 11 Dec, 2022 11:57 am

I want to standardize the pronunciation of Lake Tahune in my audio-visuals.

I've always called it ta-WHO-knee, but Eric Sargent who went there in 1947, says ta-HOON.

Is one of those definite, or is either okay?

For a definitive pronunciation you need to get onto the language group at the TAC. If it's consistent with current palawa kani conventions, it would probably be more like your usage, but finishing with a shorter vowel.

I've always said ta-HOON. I doubt this is the correct pronunciation however as mentioned by NNW.

Maybe ask the people at the Tahune Airwalk.
