You mean the Barkly Highway?
Head up north for a quick visit to Booraloola and Caranbirini. You could take the Gulf Rd from there if you have a 4WD (and the road's passable which it should be in October), but if not it's back south. There are some fascinating caves and sinkholes near Camooweal, and there's always Lawn Hill Gorge.
It's been a few years since I was up that way. Trying to recall what's fairly close to the main road.
There's Kunjarra, which is about halfway between Tennant and ThreeWays, from memory. You can head north from Cloncurry up to Normanton and Karumba, that's an interesting area and there's a lot of goldmining history on the main route south from there. Will have a think and see what else I can dredge up.
