Reliable wintertime water spots.

I was wondering about reliable water spots in the Main Range, in particular the section between Superbus/Teviot area and Governor Chair, for the period of August/September. I'm aware of Mt. Huntley and Steamers Saddle but not sure if would be dry in this season.
Any tips?

Even Treefern gully on Huntley can be dry.
It is generally more reliable than Steamer saddle. You may have to go a fair way west from Steamer saddle but i've nearly always gotten something.
Another place i have found water is between Doubletop and Huntley (the lowest point - then west) but that was more than twenty years ago.
I got water running down the southside of Spicers Pk once but it was soon after rain.
We go out on so many daywalks, they often involve dropping water caches out to cater for future visits.
That has been our main practice for dealing with water in SEQ for the last couple of decades.

Hiding water in the bush is not an option at the moment. I guess I'll carry some extra and make a decision based on what I find at Huntley. Worst case scenario I'll use some of the dehydrated water sachets...

I wonder about the amount of nutrition lost in dehydrating water as opposed to the freeze dried stuff.

Don't know but I think we worry too much about technicalities. BTW on a serious note, if you remember I asked you about Barrabool ridge and water: we found an honest stream just below West Peak towards Midget and also water coming down from a gully on upper Savages. I don't think this winter has been that dry after all...

What would be your estimate walking time from Huntley to Steamers saddle in your opinion?

With a through walking pack, and for someone who knows the way, travel time would be about four and a half hours.
There are a few spots that can still cause delays.
With a little bit of unfamiliarity, such that it invokes a question like yours, I would be allowing 6hrs so as not to disappoint.

Unfortunately not. We only had one day in hand so just some exploration of new territories. We'll plan this for another time, maybe Barrabool and Midget in a loop. The scrub doesn't look that bad, navigation is very easy and the scrambles lots of fun.
