Cleared Ridge in a Forester?

Has anyone been up to Cleared Ridge lately?
A friend just bought a Subaru Forester and wants to go there, I have heard that the road is in very poor state.
Is it possible to get up there in a Forester with standard tyres and standard ground clearance?

It's a wild buckin' bronco ride in my old rear wheel drive ute with new tyres for grip,
but that was about a year ago.... Sorry not much help.

Its a popular area so someone will eventually answer with more recent knowledge.


* Now that i think about it, i hired a forester recently & took it along all sorts of nasty back tracks,
(shhh don't tell thrifty )over small trees across the road, runoff gutters, rocks, corrugations etc....so it shouldn't be a problem.
There's a couple of turn around points along the track if change your mind.

Been up to the gate on top of cleared ridge many times in a barina. Admittedly one must be very careful, only done a sump once, even then was able to drive to beaudesert before needing repairs. I have found a lot of roads depend on skill (or recklessness) of the driver rather than the vehicle.
That said haven't been up there since the rain a couple of months ago.

PS. So funny when meeting a city 4wder who thinks they are are doing "off roading" only to be followed by a tiny car.

Was up there 2 weeks ago for a hike, we drove my Delica 4WD, no problem in that, diesel grunt, AT tyres, clearance, low range was useful on descent to manage speed rather than brakes.
My son drove and he is on his L's, no 4WD experience, he did it well.

Forester? probably.

A number of rutted, washed out, rough steeper sections where you have to choose your line carefully, other than that a gravel road.
You will probably bottom out somewhere.
Sometimes it is about slow considered driving and then no problem.

Was up there a couple of months ago in my friends Kluger, we stopped before one of the poorer sections and walked from the car.
He had already started slipping and bottoming out, did not wish to damage car, standard road tyres.

Having said that saw people in a similar car, cannot remember what, 2wd, no high clearance, they made it up and back.

What could go wrong....?

Watching a orange loom of a new day approaching from the end of the track as i type this in.
Very wild wooly & windy. Beanie, puffy jacket & rain jacket keeping me warm.

1st steep road section has a loose gravelly surface & ruts across the road with larger rocks poking
through here & there...they cast tall shadows with the headlights in the darkness.
2nd steep bit, more ruts & rocks jutting out of the surface.
They're the really bad bits...the road has deteriorated since the last time I past through.

Dry weather only road.
Take your time & choose your line.
I wouldn't take my my rear wheel drive ute up there anymore.
Gotta go....here comes the sun !

Note. There's also a couple of new speed camera's on the My Lindsay Hwy
between Browns Plains & Jimboomba.
