I was hiking at the Prom on March 22nd 2011 when the storm hit. It was scary!!.
I went back with my G/f for the first time this weekend, April 21,22,23 2012. We hiked 40 kms or so .We hiked 17 kms in one day with full pack s via Oberon bay to Roaring meg.
A bunch of CB radio nerds had colonized the campsite and had set up two large antennae and portable battery powered CB radios !!!!. They had CB radios and had no interest in talking to each other or digging nature. They just went on with " crrrrrr, roger, over, delta wanker mike echo gold, do you read me, copy over..." for hours. It ruined our peace and quiet.
Roaring meg was Leech infested. The track to South Point is open but also Leech infested, esp. after it rained cats and dogs with lightening and thunder. .I secretly hoped the lightning would strike the CB radio nerds' antennae. . The views at South Point were worth the walk.
We moved onto Oberon bay in time to set up our tents to beat another thundery downpour.
There is no drinking water at Oberon bay. You must carry it in.
The damage and havoc created by the storm and flood last year is still evident everywhere and on a grand scale.
The lighthouse is now open for bookings and the SE track is open up to Waterloo bay.Sealers Cove is open but only from refuge cove. You then have to double back to Refuge cove to get back to Tidal river via Oberon bay.
Work is under way to open up Telegraph saddle and the Sealers' cove access to hikers from The Mt Oberon carpark/Telegraph saddle.
Overall it was a pleasant and strenous trip to the Prom.

The water at Roaring Meg is good to drink. The south point track is overgrown in places and quite swampy in other places. It makes for Leech city!
The Lighthouse is open for bookings. I 'd stay there if you can afford it, even for one night rather than two nights in " leech i stan."

you could have started a sing song with your girfriend to drown them out, if they didnt like that then you could offer a truce if they want to desist from ruining your stay in the outdoors with their endless repetitive cb talk... if they dont like it then go back to singing.......

I always bring by backpacker guitar, so I tried. I did ask them how long they would be carrying on with such sad nerd behaviour, & in doing so registering my displeasure in a civil manner.
Apparently they were at south point with their CB radio gear all day trying to contact other nerds in Tasmania.So we got off lightly !!!
If they are married I bet you their wives are either train spotters or have banned the CB radios from the house so that they can actually try and talk to the men they have married by ,

I complained to the parks office back in Tidal river and they said we are helpless once the booking has been made & the people are out of the caravan park area.

Maybe you should have told them about how you don't need a CB radio anymore coz there's this thing called Facebook.

Meanwhile, I wanna know more about your backpacker guitar. It's not what is commonly known as a ukulele is it? I mean, ukes are breeding up quick these days. Actually, think I'll start a new topic about music in the bush.

A real martin backpacker guitar , It is a real six string steel 10-46 " gauge steel string guitar with the 3/4 scale and narrow body . It is not a ukulele or a banjo.
