GSWW hammock friendly?

G’day,

I'm starting some prep work for a planned walk starting around mid November 2020 (COVID willing) and was just wanting to check if anyone was aware if a camping hammock (with tree guard straps) would be suitable for each of the listed campsites – I've been caught before where there is a lack of trees to use, or where campsites have had a preference for using a tent over the hammock.  I do have a hiking tent which I could use, but get a better night's sleep in the hammock and its 300g lighter which is always a plus.

Thanks in advance – great website.

Cheers

Joe

I did it some years ago with a hammock (Warbonnet Blackbird XLC). Was still using a hootchie, sleeping mat and sleeping bag in those days.

Very achievable, however you will sometimes have to go a short distance from the official campsite to find suitable hanging spots.

It was my first multi-day hike using a hammock and haven’t looked back since!

Big hint - take a piece of cord to suspend your pack (or at least your food bag) from a tree branch as the possums are very aggressive at some campsites!

Chris, how did you go at The Springs campsite? I can only remember coastal scrub and pretty small trees there.

From memory that was one I had to go a little bit away from the official site but managed okay.

It was a while ago!

Oh, forgot to mention:
If there’s no-one else at the campsite you can hang your hammock in the shelters with a little imagination.
