Hi everyone!

Wondering if anyone has been in the brisbane ranges recently and knows how the tanks are looking? More specifically old mildd and little river. It hasn't rained too much and i'm a little concerned :(

Thanks!

I was poking around the Brisbane Ranges this morning when I passed through the Old Mill Walkers Camp. Wandering over to the water tank to check how much water it had in it I found toilet paper in the tank inlet  I'm not sure how it got there but it had obviously been there during yesterday's rain as it was now pretty well mulched. I scrapped it out as best I could, but I'd be treating the tank water at Old Mill for awhile!

Oh yeah, the tank was about a third full.

And After.... I'd definitely be treating it!

Hi Guys,

Just a quick heads up.

I decided to do a quick two day walk on the Burchell Trail last weekend - spending last Friday Night at Old Mill Camp.

It's been over two years since I took the above photo so I assumed the water would be OK with some treatment - I think I assumed wrong! A week later and it looks like I've picked up a case of giardia. My best guess is it was this tank, as I picked up water from it on Friday afternoon and then again on Saturday morning. I did grab a couple of litres from the tank at Little River Camp when I passed through later that day so that can't be ruled out.

It looks like some people are toileting in the area outside the long drop at Old Mill Camp?? and I'm guessing that birds are grabbing the toilet paper and dropping it on the roof of the long drop - from where it can get washed into the tank - although there are a lot of assumptions in that theory!

I'm thinking I might up grade my treatment system - I generally just use tablets in Australia however it might be time for a Sawyer Squeeze or Katadyn Be Free.

Cheers
Kevin

Hey BigKev, you used tablets and still go Giardia?
what kind of tablets?
I used chlorine tablets when in doubt, and usually fitler with sawyer mini or BeFree.

Hi Baeng,

I just use Aquatabs. I'm wondering if they may actually be out of date? - there hasn't been a lot of overnight walking going on for me in the last couple of years :(

The worst thing about being crook this weekend has been that the weather has been sensational for walking.

I understand you need to pay camping fees for the Old Mill campground, but I am just going around in circles through links on the Parks Victoria website. Can anyone post a direct link to where you pay?
Cheers!
