Bogong Village Circuit via Bogong Jack Saddle, Tawonga Huts

My son (11 yo) and I, have just completed a 3 day walk,

Bogong Village to Spring Creek Saddle (1st night camp)to Bogong Jack Saddle to the Fainters (absolutely magical) to Tawonga Huts, (an amazing camping location). the next day to Pretty Valley. Then up to Frying Pan spur (not great several cars and the Ski tow infrastructure is an eyesore) the a long descent to Howmans Gap. For the early part sharing the path with mountain bikers (who were very courteous) A little difficult, to locate the walking track once it separates from the bike path, the burnt telegraph poles are a good land mark. A Howmans it was getting and the boy tired. So avoided the 6 km walk along the fire trail to Bogong Village by hitching a ride (got a lift within 10 mins).
With the lush green grassy areas and good water almost everywhere a great walk.
Ps Regard to water, there's a spring close to Spring Creek Saddle, one just before Bogong Jacks, then once near the Fainters lots of water sources.

Always good to hear a bit of appreciation for the Fainters. Not an area the masses generally hear or think of, but it's wonderful.

A nice walk and a good introduction. Is there a gate just above the start? It's a decent climb from the start to Bogong Jack Saddle. The ridge from Pretty Plain to Jaithmathang is lovely. If not going to Tawonga Huts it's possible to go from the saddle SE of Jaithmathang over a bump to hit the pole line close to the Fainter Fire Track, or go to pole 333. Road 24 is longer but more sheltered than Frying Pan.

Not sure about an actual gate, at the start there are fenced off sheds belonging to the power company AGL. These make the start a bit confusing

The process for pictures is at Main track > Gallery > How to upload and attach images to forum posts

When I went up the track a few years ago I managed the AGL fence satisfactorily.

Road 24 goes on forever. :-0
I am thinking about doing a Mid March 2017 walk in and out from the the AGL locked gate near Bogong village up to Bogong jack hut and camping there for a night , make a day pack mission to the Fainters and then pack up the next day and walk back down the same way .
I sussed out the gate earlier in Jan. '17 and I can squeeze through. I guess I my large pack could fit through separately.

I was up this way just before Christmas, if you walk up from Bogong village to the main road and you look across the road into the bush there is sign indicating to the spring saddle track if you follow this around you don't have to go through any gates just follow the track around. The sign is not easy to see!

I sussed out that sign pointing to Spring saddle track and route and came to a dead end and a fence. I will take my chances squeezing through the gate. I did it last month to see if I could fit.I was able to and I am not a small person.

Hi surly 17, is this sign/track opposite where the Bogong Village access road meets the BHP road?

Yes it is just hidden away a little bit.
If you follow the track it twists and turns a bit going uphill you can see all the works buildings and the reservoir but you don't have to go through any gate.

I looked for the way through after the spring saddles fire trail sign and failed. The gate limbo dance it will have to be and in less than 2 weeks.
