Plan is to do a 4 day walk in the Snowy Mountains over Easter, driving up most of the way from Melbourne on the Thursday night to begin walking Friday. Does anyone know of any spots on the way to pull over and pitch a few tents free of charge? Preferably beyond Albury and not far off the highway.
Cheers.

Just past Shelly, a couple of km. on the left . Lawrence's lookout, off the road approx. 1 km. picnic shelter with pit toilet.

Thanks stansi. Looks like we might now be doing something in Vic instead to minimise driving, but I'll remember that for future trips.

Depends on your route.
For one thing, why Albury? It's quicker to head east from Wodonga along the Murray River (a number of camping areas on the way, including at the Tom Mitchell Reserve), and if you make good time you could even overnight at Geehi or Tom Groggin or Leatherbarrel Creek.
I like driving up via Suggan Buggan and Barry Way. There are plenty of camping areas beside the Snowy River, plus a couple of lookouts that are good overnight stopping places.
