Mitchell River

Morning people.

Going for a hike/ fish along Mitchell River near Billy Goat Bend and Rock Creek camp ground. Does anyone know this area well?
Just wanting to know what the drinking water situation is like.

Fresh drinking water easily available or is it going to be river water?

En route back from Genoa Gorge Walk over New Year, we visited Mitchell River as tourists. We did not make it to Billy Goat Ben and so I don’t have the info requested. The river flowed well and there were many natural rest stops along the way. I would suggest a compact light-weight stove packed for your appetite. One of the highlights was this guy (pics below) holding us for about 10 minutes at Deadcock Den, the special place with a history of Aboriginal people. This guy was pleased for a pose.

Don't know the area well but have been at this river at the start and end of what most people do as an overnight walk and I happily drank the river water. It is a good flowing river.

Upstream of Billy Goat Bend is the township of Dargo and it's associated septic tanks.
Extensive freehold farmland; cattle, sheep, horses, pesticides, herbicides etc.
Boil, filter and/or treat water to be safe.
You might get away with it, you might not.

Walked and paddled that section of river never had a problem drinking the water. Just remember the track from Den of Nargen upstream to the dam site road doesn't go near the river very often.

Not giving advice Highercountry. Just stating a fact in answer to the op. I have drank the river water in the area concerned with no ill effects. If someone has concerns about the quality of the water then obviously they should treat it.

I have drunk the water also with no ill effects, though it was during the off season.
During holidays season I would be a little more cautious.
Found a little stream a few Km's further upstream from Billy Goats where I gathered water to drink untreated

This reminds me of "the guy" and the detective in ABC tv's "Death in Paradise" on Fridays.
