Walking warning

Postby Isis » Fri 15 Feb, 2013 4:16 pm

Got a quick reminder on the weekend on how things can go wrong. We walked the Angusvale to Billy Goat Bend section and return last weekend , on the Saturday there were thunderstorms and besides getting wet we never thought much about it until driving out on the Sunday there were 5 DSE utes and a tanker putting the finishing touches on a fire that had started due to lighting strike the day before. If the fire had not been pickup we could of been trapped , not in danger directly but still trapped. So to coin a saying , be careful out there.

Happens to the best of us. Was caught out in the 2003 fires on top of Bogong myself, its a scary thing to have happen to you.

When youre in the bush, a heap can go wrong. Broken/sprained ankles, snake/spider/insect bites, fuel poisoning, falling and breaking bones, etc, and you've just got to know how you would handle each one of them, and how you would get help if needed.

Identify the risks. Mitigate the risks (if you can). Have a contingency in place if the risk eventuates.
