Budawangs - Castle Walking Track closure Jun-Nov 25

NPWS is closing the "Castle Walking Track" from 2nd June 2025 till approx the end of Nov.

It's closed from the river @ Long Angle to the top

Closed areas: Castle Walking track closed
Track maintenance will commence at the Castle Walking Track from 2nd June until approximately 30th November 2025. The closed areas are:
- Castle Walking Track closed
- Cooyoyo campground closed

If you're really interested in what they are doing the tender docs are online showing all the work.

Thanks. That's interesting that they are actually doing work in the Budawangs. The cynic in me asks exactly what "infrastructure" is there? I don't remember much of anything. That said, that track could do with a bit of work as it is horribly eroded in places.

Disappointing it's closing the week of the long weekend. Could've delayed it a week...

Wow, actually doing some work on the wooden steps up Meakins pass & down to Cooyoyo with some minor re-routing

I've always assumed all of that work was done prior to the wilderness declaration

Hi the Castle Track has actually been closed from early May - I was going to do this walk this weekend before the closure on Monday but then I read the alert notice again! It's been closed for weeks!

NPWS also has an alert marking the route to Byangee marked as closed until November

Closed areas: Byangee Wall Walking Track Closed

Byangee Walls Walking Track in Morton National Park is closed due to Capital repairs and maintenance.

Is there any chance they finish the works and the trail reopens earlier than expected? I'm super keen to hike the Castle in November this year. Thanks

Can only speculate but would say it's unlikely. Best to call the Ulladulla NPWS office for an informed response (which will likely be a no, but can only ask).
