Recent fatality on Starlights Track

Postby Hughmac » Wed 10 Apr, 2024 10:43 am

Hi folks. Was wondering if anyone was across the details of the recent fatality at Starlight's? The news reports were somewhat confusing, some saying he was found 300m from the carpark, others saying he died after going off track and falling. Don't know of any potentially dangerous heights that close to the carpark. Wondering if he actually fell at the waterfall two thirds of the way down the track (and around 300m off the track).

I have to admit I had not even heard about that search until you posted about it. Surprising sometimes what gets widely reported and what doesn't.

Firstly, condolences to this gentleman's family. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Hughmac,
The details were a bit scant and it was hard to work out from the news reports what happened. Was it 300m from the carpark or 300m from the Starlights sign or 300m from the start of the footpad down into the valley. Did read that it was being considered death by misadventure or medical episode. There will be a coronial inquest, maybe more information will be forth coming at that time.

Michael.

I know a couple of SES Volunteers that were involved in the search. He was found very close to the parking area, but they cannot say any more.
