I am planning to the Katoomba to Mittagong walk in the next couple of months. The last time I did it the section from Beloon Pass to Starlight's was very slow. Can anyone update me on the conditions between Beloon Pass and Mittagong. Anything I should be aware of?

My wife has done from the old Nattai Road to Russells Needle in the last 12 months, and didn't mention any special slowness. Though she suggested walking in the river between Wanganderry Creek and Troys Creek. I did from Russells Needle to Troys Creek last year and it was fine.
I have heard Beloon Pass might be fairly slow though.

What route are you planning. I did Katoomba to Starlights before the recent series of floods and fires, walking via Kanangra. Was a fantastic walk, but saw a news article recently about an experienced walker who attempted the K to K and had to be rescued. Obviously not a problem if you're walking the fire trail, but a lot less interesting. As to the Nattai, I'd just assume a bush bash with lots of dense regrowth and no obvious track. Parts of the old road remain, although badly overgrown, but much of it has also been washed away. At least water should be okay after the recent rains.

And would strongly recommend a PLB, even if there's a few of you walking.

The fire trail road from beloon pass along the river has totally vanished and doesn’t reoccurs until after you cross little river. This won’t affect your walk but it’s a good reference to what the pass will be like. The bottom section was always a tad confusing now I would imagine lost all together. I would be tempted to follow the creek in travers(?) gully up from the river…it’s a see on the day thing, really.

Thanks for the intel. I last did thie walk in 2008 and the section from Beloon Pass to Starlight's was pretty heavy going. We followed the track markers along the Nattai, but this was slow.
