Canoe Creek Track

Postby Tantell » Wed 24 Aug, 2022 8:02 am

Hi all, I was looking at doing this walk as an overnighter in a month or so. Has anyone done it recently? Any updated feedback?
Cheers
Shaun

Hi mate, I did it back in December. Not sure if that counts as recent! What sort of info are you after?

It's steep, was a bit overgrown in parts and some flood damage on the river. But a beautiful spot and 100% worth it

There have been a couple of floods since December (and since the last post on AllTrails). But the sandbanks for camping on the Colo generally seem to regenerate fairly well.

Some of the comments on AllTrails were hilarious.
Avoid hot days if you’re a big water drinker as there are no sources the fill up on the way back up.

No sources of water ... other than the major river that you have just left, and the creek that you walk out up, that I've never seen dry!

In the winter season, the water is very cold and will require you to swim at knee height through the water to reach the camping area.

I got nuthin' on this one!

Thanks guys, yeah reading some of the comments were a bit weird. I suppose confirming there'll be water and somewhere to camp is sufficient! :)

Actually got a question re car parking - is it a case of squashing the car on Putty Rd at the Grassy Hill Trail or can I drive up the trail a bit? Cheers

Supposed to be a locked gate a short way in, according to NSW topo map.

The gate was open when I was there a couple of months ago. At that point access to the end of the trail would have been fine with a 4WD, but there was a point halfway along that I wasn't game to tackle with my RAV4 so I walked from there

Thank you - I take it just park somewhere off the road up the track that makes sense. Cheers

Hi friends, has anyone been between August and now? I'm considering going and not sure about the amount of bushwalking.

Gates were open all the way to the trackhead as of January. No reason why that would have changed? Road in is quite rough in places... probably doable (with care) in a 2wd but far better in a 4wd. Walk in to the river was a couple of hours from memory. Good (albeit steep in places) track the whole way.
