Yes eggs. Not coming down but just exploring the rocks around the Townsend summit area.
I think was standing at or near the concrete summit marker to take the shot.

I knew it was Townsend by that distinctive pointy rock which features strongly in Eugene's painting looking NE from Townsend. You're not quite in the same spot but pretty close.

And clearly this IS Gore-Tex...

Thanks GBW. I've seen the painting "North-east View from the Northern Top of Mount Kosciusko" but wasn't clear that you were providing an answer.
His Gore-Tex was probably more comfortable, as long as it stayed dry :).
Happy for either you or eggs to go next.

The range is named after a painter, and this section of named peaks can be thought of while the sun shines.

That is better. Mt Hayward is the slight rise about 3/4 across, while most of the named Hayward peaks show to the left of it.

Thanks for the help, eggs.

What is the name of the SA walking route where this signpost is located?

Won't be Heysen - it finishes a long way south from Arkaroola.
There will be about 4 or 5 walks that radiate out from the Campground/resort area.

Given the little background, lets start with the Mawson-Spriggina Trail

True, there is nothing helpful in the background. I was hoping the wire that prevents the sign from pointing to an underground location might be recognised as a distinguishing feature. (Photograph taken last May, so by now it might point to China.)

Eggs, I reckon you ought to go next, having identified the proximate location. I think you'd agree that it seems pretty pointless to go through all the other half-dozen or so other trails that might be the one.

This sign is on the Oodnaminta Track on andrewp's OSM map. The walking trail is called Nudlamutana-Oodnaminta Track in the excellent notes in the Walking Trails Support Group's, Oppaminda Nudlamutana brochure. It's at a junction with a track heading NNE to the Balcanoona-Arkaroola Road. In the brochure, it is named as "old Arkaroola road", but is unnamed in the OSM map.

Let's shift to the NT then.
This is off track - but a well known area.
One peak is readily identified.

Cool. NSW again, might be tricky so just the name of the river in the valley will suffice
