Yes, that’s right. We were on a section of Hadrians Wall just near Greenhead while walking The Pennine Way.

Thanks Moh. Looks interesting, took some research as I haven't been there.
North America, I'm on a popular alpine trail. This small tarn has a name:
- Approaching Decker Tarn on Blackcomb Mountain via Whistler BC, Canada

I can narrow it down to Canada. I had a pleasant encounter with a few of these guys at this spot, and elsewhere on the trail:
- Not a game photo - Hoary Marmot

They just turned up, didn't need to give them a whistle...

A pity you didn't, then you'd have been a whistler

Hint - It is not managed by DOC.
Tue 09 Apr, 2024 4:08 pm
Waimakariri Falls Hut, I think. Had to research it, looks very remote.
Nearest I've been is lunch at Arthurs Pass during a torrential downpour
.
DOC actually says they manage it - or you mean it's unmaintained?
Tue 09 Apr, 2024 5:23 pm
Correct John. DOC list it on their website as a biv/free which is very misleading, it's actually a CMC hut at $10/night (or it was when I was there last year). Sits at the head of an amazing valley above a waterfall, with lots of Keas. I approached from Waimakariri Col direction to avoid it being an up and back trip. I saw a lot of huts on that trip, this was one of my favourites
