Walking Mount Blanc mid September

Postby srforum112 » Tue 18 Jun, 2013 10:04 am

Has anyone walked the Mont Blanc Tour out of the opening season - after mid September?
I would like to walk this trail, but my timing happens to coincide with the end of the season (mid September).
As a result I'm not sure what accommodation will be open on the walk after mid September. There is a website that provides a list of huts and their closing dates, but not all are included.
Just wandering if anyone has walked the MBT out of season and whether you found finding accommodation difficult or not, and where you needed to change your walking plans to ensure you had a place to stay for the night.
My timing is unfortunate....might have to change my plans and walk elsewhere!
Thanks
Sonja

I don't know about huts, but mid-September in France is still considered shoulder season. More and more people take their holidays in September, so I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find anything. After all, university holidays end around mid/end of September. If you have a look at this website : http://www.guides-du-montblanc.com/fr/mont-blanc.html you see that they organize tours until the end of September. I see many French forums advising to do the Tour du Mont Blanc in September. Less tourists, more snow. You need to contact each hut individually, although you can still do it tent only. I've seen a couple that close end of Sept ("fin septembre" in French) instead of mid Sept : http://www.massif-mont-blanc.com/refuges/ or have a look at the official website which has an English version : http://www.autourdumontblanc.com/en/ind ... ation.html

I'll be in Chamonix in early September to do some climbing.
It's far from the end of the season, fewer people but you'll find everything's very much go until the end of the month.
Many of the companies putting on the Tour will probably have their final outing to coincide with the end of the month so huts will be operating.

Try some of these sites for ideas: http://www.chamonix.net/english/accommo ... b_huts.htm
