Penguin-Cradle Trail with dogs?

Hi all,

I was wondering if this trail might be allowed with dogs (at least the first part outside the national park of course)? We are looking for some nice 2-3 day walks where we could take our dogs. They used to join us when bush walking back in Germany/Europe (Pyrenees, Alps, Harz mountains,...) and really enjoy it. :)

I would be very interested in Infos about this trail or others that are allowed with dogs. :D

Thanks for your help,
Anissa

Hi Anissa,

There's a bit of information on some of the areas where dogs are OK on the central plateau walking areas in this topic (although that topic doesn't discuss the Penguin/Cradle trail).

I hope that helps.

Have walked the Dial/Gnommon/Duncan Mountain area with 2 dogs in past. No signs to prohibit them at that time. The cradle end of things is where you will run into dramas i reckon.

Sure, it's national park. ;) But it would be great to walk on the other end. Haven't taken our two dogs with us a lot in Tassie due to the restrictions. We are pretty lucky living in West Hobart at the bottom of Knocklofty Reserve and therefore have the chance to walk them from home (have explored more or less the whole bottom part of Mt. Wellington from there). It's a great area for daywalks/trailruns with dogs and especially my GalgoX just LOVES it! :D

Hey a Galgo? You got any pics? Ive seen them before. They are quite cool looking dogs. We met one at the dog walking beach once...we always thought our little aussie/foxie cross was a fast dog...she outruns most we meet down there...but the galgo made her look like she was standing still.

Yes, he is quite fast. And since Galgos are bred for rabbit hunting he has to stay on the leash at all times.
Here are some pics of Manu:
