Playabels

Postby Nereus » Thu 23 Dec, 2021 1:29 pm

Well, congratulations to whoever thought of Playabels - a brilliant idea, beautifully executed.

But you must have known, if you want to court controversy, create a list! I assume you are made of sterner stuff - not afraid of bauera or scoparia or cutting grass.....prepare to be lashed by all three - metaphorically speaking, of course.

Kunanyi as the Ace of Spades! Forsooth! A 6 at most.
Mt Barrow is a 10 of clubs, and Clumner Bluff is nowhere to be seen!
Black Bluff a 2 of diamonds, and Hartz Peak a Jack of spades? The north-west always gets forgotten by Hobart.
Where are the Spires? And Mt Bobs?
And the Jokers! What an opportunity missed! I would have picked Diamond Peak and Mt Humbolt.

Let the controversy begin!

Version 2 needs to be out by New Year.

Cool idea! But with some epic choices of actual Abels, I wonder why they put the Geryons on the box/promo. Maybe because they are so exceptional he/she didn't want them to miss out. :D

Can someone please provide a link? My googleFu is not producing anything relevant.

I had that problem until I realised I had to tell google et al that I really did mean playabels, not playables.

I had trouble even with the "correct" spelling. Had to draw on the absolute depths of my search construction knowledge.
Has its own web site:

Looks like a few other retailers in Hobart are meant to be stockists:

Oh, I thought it was a joke.
I wish these people would stop calling themselves 'Mountain Lovers', none of this is 'for' mountains.
Mountain Pimp would be more appropriate.

Thank you both.

They lost me straight away - Wylds Craig does not have an apostrophe!
Nice concept, but needs more cards. There aren't that many nonentities amongst the Abels that you can safely leave out.

That's rather cynical. The website says profits are going to "groups protecting tassie bush".

"All of the maker's profits are going toward looking after the tassie bush, via different local environmental groups. Initially this will be Tasmanian Land Conservancy, but may broaden to include other grassroots organisations with goals of preserving environmental integrity and maintaining public protections of land which deserves our respect and attention. Over $3,500 raised for Tassie bush charities!"

Calling people names for raising thousands of dollars for charity seems a bit unfair.

Alone It's just a deck of cards. And Lover and Pimp are just names. But yes, even if it's 'Love', selling love, for places where the only real & emerging threat is being 'loved to death'.

The 'good causes' mentioned here seem to rob Peter to pay Paul. And that's all charity can do for Wilderness (Areas especially)? Our mountains just need minimal impacts from us, nothing more.
