Xmas 1950 trip to Mt Anne

Postby guyburns » Tue 16 Jun, 2020 3:35 pm

At Christmas 1950, the Launceston Walking Club had a trip to Mt Anne. I'm almost certain that the attached photo (yet to be cleaned up) was taken on that trip, because the same fellow, Jim Turner, is in another photo taken on the summit of Mt Anne, with the same glasses and shorts.

However, a month before, Jim was in the party on the first ascent of South Geryon, so I want to make sure that the photo below is not from the Geryon trip.

Where exactly, is this photo?

That very much looks like Eve Peak and Eliza Bluff in the background.
Take from somewhere on the summit block of Anne.

I reckon that is possibly the corner you go around after the sloping ledge of death.

Roughly the route up, with the spot circled where there is a dolerite column. This is taken from Eve Peak.

Close up, hard to tell but it sort looks like the block on top, there is something behind perhaps another column?
If its not this spot then its definately somewhere on the side of the Anne summit block

Absolutely agree.
This is a more oblique shot - photographer looks to have been on a platform a little to the LHS of the pillar

So glad it isn't actually the summit of anything.

Have you seen Dave Nobles shots of summiting the Acropolis?

Thanks for the feedback, and confirmation that the photo was on Mt Anne.
