Hey there,

Can anyone provide me with some access details to the above lake?

Looks like a logging road goes reasonably close to Travellers Rest Lagoon so that may be a good start. Are there any decent tracks on to TR Lake from the lagoon or is it a bush bash?

Also, are there any good camping spots?

I'm looking at February/March so at least the walking shouldn't be too boggy.

Will be walking with my wife and our seven year old son.

It's untracked. Depending on the route it could be relatively easy going or a nightmare. Interesting place to take a seven year old.

He loves fishing and walking so we are exploring new water together.

I have received some great information regarding this area and would like to thank those who have shared their time and knowledge.
I have also had some queries as to why I would take my seven year old son into this area.
Well, as I said above, we love fishing, fly fishing to be exact and that takes us to some wonderful places. We are always looking at areas that we haven't covered.
Being a very experienced walker and an extremely responsible father I would never take my son or my wife for that matter anywhere I thought would exceed their abilities. That's the reason I asked the above question in the first place.

With care, two experienced adults should be able to look after a child who has some grounding in the bush. It's essentially flat near there, mainly light scrub. The only problem may be the lack of features on the plain, but this is manageable. Summer only methinks.

Travellers as with most lakes within the World Heritage area cannot be fished willy nilly.
It is a lovely place and a perfect spot to take your young fella but it may be illegal to fish due to the fact it is within World heritage / national park boundaries with guide lines that need to be respected.

As far as I am aware fishing is permitted at most Lakes within the world heritage area during the appropriate season if you are in possession of a current IFS licence. The only limitation would be the restriction a few lakes and on bait fishing but as the OP stated he is a fly fisherman this isn't an issue.

May I ask where you got that information from? Travellers Rest Lake has loads of brown trout (an introduced and stocked species) and has been fished for years. Some nice big ones in there too. Some of Tasmania's best fishing is in the Western Lakes.

As long as you have a valid inland fisheries licence and fish in season there isn't an issue. A couple of lakes in the south west are closed due to native galaxias but there's no trout in them anyway.

I hope the OP has a good trip. I think I'll pop in there myself for a fish soon.

I think you'll find that the normal regulations apply. Anyone who has an Inland fisheries licence
would have a copy of the regulations that comes with the licence.

I was curious about this and knowing that the rules are stupidly convoluted / complicated I looked it up..

So it actually goes on to say... or at least I think it does that any lake or waterway in the TWWHA not specifically mentioned in exceptions list is closed.

However this says all lakes within Walls of Jerusalem national park are covered by this brochures.. but goes onto say but you only access them from Lake Augusta area.
So I actually thought it was okay to fish the travellers.. but now I'm just confused..

I doubt you'll run into inland fisheries up there.

Sorry my mistake , it applies to tourist operated trout fishing undertakings

Being a licenced angler, I have a copy of the regs and my interpretation is that bait fishing is not allowed but artificial and fly are ok.

This is to prevent a repeat of L Sorell and Crescent and so frogs etc don't get used for bait.
