Transport from Lake St Clair to Cradle Mtn in One Day?

Postby Da Frizz » Thu 22 May, 2008 11:04 pm

Does anybody have any suggestions about getting from lake St Clair to Cradle mountain in 1 day?

A mate and I are wanting to leave a car in long term parking area at Lake St Claire, but need to get to Cradle mountain. Tassielink have moved to a 'winter' schedule which will only allow walkers to leave Lake St Claire on a Monday or Weds for a 2hr journey to Queenstown, then take a Tues or Thurs connection to Cradle Mtn :x .

As we are coming over from interstate the 2 car option is not available, unless somebody out there is keen to walk the Overland mid June also?
Any other options?

We had a similar problem when we did the OT, although we flew down and had to get transport at both ends. Used one of the commercial operators that the PWS list on their OT web site http://www.overlandtrack.com.au/doing_access.html. The service was good, but for two people it ain't cheap :( .

Kind regards,

This may be little consolation but if you have to go with the 2-day bus trip, it is also possible to do it with an overnight stay in Launceston or Devonport. The West Coast bus to Hobart hooks up with the main highway bus to Launceston and Devonport. The bus ticket will cost $120 instead of $60 and you will spend 8.5 hours on the bus instead of 5.75 hours. I have heard of people taking this option if they have 'free' (friends or relations) accommodation options in Launie or Devonport.
