the road to Lake Dove is public access so normally cleared, leave the drive up till the arvo, stay a cupla nights is best in winter for a long day walk. There will likely be snow on the summit approach, nothing stopping you turning back if your worried, should be able to get most of the way, easier especially if others have been up beforehand.
Just to add that you could ring the visitor centre at Cradle to ask about the road conditions on the day, they get sick of being asked but hey...
