I happen to know a few people on the OLT at the moment, indeed I got a call from one of the party about 10 this morning, they were at Pine Forest Moor.
Reckon that should mean they had plenty of time to make it to New Pelion Hut by the time this storm struck, if not at least they had a good bit of forest to hide in.

All over by about 6PM by the look of this -
CANCELLATION SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
Issued at 5:55 pm Sunday, 10 March 2013.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in Tasmania/Antarctica.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
Thunderstorms at Liawenee produced 23mm of rain in 30 minutes at 1pm. A total of 59mm fell at Liawenee and 26mm at Tods Corner near Great Lake.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.

I'll second norts on that! We were at Tiger Lake, and even swimming there as the storm got going  We got totally soaked on the walk back to Wild Dog. I'd never seen the Walls so dry, so the rain was very welcome. And we soon dried out in the trusty Olympus.

It was good to meet you and Warwick there Roger ... and to see those nice Hillebergs  . A great long weekend, that ended with a literal bang!

cheers

Yes nice to meet you too Peter. Always nice to put a face to a name
Warrick and I had a laugh as we were walking out about the accents. We thought we had an international group beside us.

yes :) we amuse one another with appalling accents! Try Russian when going up a steep hill, or French when cooking. They work very well ... at least on our small minds :?

cheers

Was a lovely storm to watch - glad we decided to sit the afternoon out at New Pelion rather than wandering up to Lake Price.

Then you would have seen the southbound party of 3 I spoke of.
They were at Pine Valley track turnoff this morning, progressing well.

If it's the party I suspect, all was well with them and it was a pleasure to make their acquaintance.

I was about a K out from Narcissus when it hit. And I thought it only drizzled in Tassie.

Was in the hut when a lightning bolt hit a tree across the river. The vibrations lasted over a minute.
