Hi everyone,
I have two weeks holiday from Aug 14 - 28, and really want to walk the Overland in winter. I have previously walked it in early May, and have quite a lot of snow camping experience here in the Vic high country. I have all my own gear for the cold / snow, so that is no problem. None of my friends however are able to make it during this time, and I don't think it is safe for a single person in the middle of winter to undertake mountaneous winter hikes.
So my question is does anybody know of any walking groups or organisations that are planning to hike the OT around these dates? I don't need to be guided or anything like that, just some safety in numbers backup.
I see that there are some companies that are offering OT trips, but they are really expensive, and I already have all my own gear (including snow tent), and can bring and cook my own food, so I don't really want to pay for all that service.
However, I don't mind some $$ outlay if it is required.
Thanks in advance,
David
