Photojournal (My way to say thank you!)

Sun 12 Apr, 2009 3:13 am

Hi all,

I lurked in this forum last year, gathering much useful information before I walked the Overland last December.

I had a magnificent experience, which I tried to capture with my camera. The result can now be seen at

http://www.pvv.org/~bct/taz/overland_track.html

I was looking for something like this myself, to prepare myself for exactly what sights I might encounter on the trail. While I was happy overall with the Overland Track book by John Chapman, I think the photos in that guide are a bit, well, underwhelming. They mostly made me expect to encounter lots of weirdos with 1970s equipment and clothes. #8D)

Anyway, thank you all for keeping this community alive with GREAT advice and information! If any of you ever make it to Norway, I'll be happy to offer my help in figuring out where and how to hike around here!

I enjoyed your photo journal and comments about what you were seeing. We locals can get a little too "familiar" with our wonderful Tassie environment and not see its uniqueness until seen through the eyes of a visitor. For a different experience next time, try Freycinet or the South West coastal walks.

Thank you, all of you!

Time is not a problem, distance is. #8D)

It is unlikely that I will travel all the way from Norway to Tasmania again anytime soon. Unfortunately!

However, before I did the Overland, I did go to Freycinet. If you go to http://www.pvv.org/~bct/taz/ , you'll find the photos from there, as well as the photos you may already have seen.

Additionally, before I went to Tasmania I spent some time in Western Australia. If you're interested, there are quite a few hiking photos here:

http://www.pvv.org/~bct/woz/ = Kalbarri, Peron and Karijini National Parks.
http://www.pvv.org/~bct/woz2/ = Various parts of the Bibbulmun Track, south of Perth.

And then there's of course the Jotunheimen Trail, quite similar to the Overland, at http://www.pvv.org/~bct/stien/ . And so on, and so on... #8D)

I think that's enough for now.

Happy hiking!
