After a lot of trial and error, I seem to be closing in on MM software and Hema maps of SA, NT for my off road activities on the planned trip.
I have a question about waypoint strategies for non-routable maps (such as the Hema, above). How do you plan your routes, how long do you make them? How many waypoints? I produced what I regard as a simple route form Quorn to Hawker by recording a waypoint (or track point) at each road bend. When trying to deal with this in a Garmin Nuvi 1490, The Gramin ponders for a while then throws up its' hands and gives up.
How SHOULD I do this? Restrict the number of waypoints? - do I do that by using longer distances between WPs and relying on an average track? I'll be driving on (mainly) tracks (such as Ooodnadatta) and e.g. Kings Canyon for the wilder parts.
Any suggestions on MM and Hema maps? Alternatives? Better strategies?
Cheers
Graham
