This looks remarkably like the KTI Safety Alert plb that was discontinued several years ago.
Anyone know snthing about them?

Did the KTI have this function?

Return Link Service (RLS)

The RLS (Return Link Service) function is a two-way communication type between your PLB and the rescue centre.
The RLS system gives you the peace of mind that your distress message, which was sent via the PLB frequency, has
been received by the rescue coordination center. As soon as your distress message is received by the responsible
authority, the RLS LED on the Tron SA20 lights up. The RLS signal is sent via the Galileo satellite network from
the rescue control centre back to the PLB, which triggered the distress message. This confirmation that rescuers
are aware that your PLB has been activated and know its location helps reduce the stress associated with
accident situations.

It did not have that function. Does any other current PLB have it?

Dunno, but that blurb was copied and pasted from the link in the OP.

Yes, the Jotron Tron SA20 PLB is the replacement for the KTI Safety Alert SAG2 PLB. Jotron is the Norwegian company that bought the product design and ownership rights from KTI in 2021 and have only just released the new model - with an 11 year battery lifetime as well as the new RLS function. https://skippersmate.co.nz/kti-epirbs-plbs/ provides some of the history.

It is good to learn that the 'replacement' unit's Return Link Service confirms that the signal has been received (even though the kti's green light lets you know it has been sent so presumably received) because as wanderr noted, it would surely help remove a lot of stress. My question is: how do you now get the unit's battery replaced since kti ceased to operate. I hope someone can help he on this. Thanks.
